It’s been a long time…

I can’t believe it’s been so long since I’ve lasted posted. I really needed a break. I couldn’t think of topics to write about and I have been extremely busy. There has been a lot of change for me the past half year and it’s just been crazy.

For one thing, I needed to take a break from some social media. I haven’t been on Instagram, Snapchat, etc. for a while now. I still used Facebook but that was just to be able to communicate with friends and family. I want to live and enjoy life. Not live life behind a camera. Plus, it kind of sucks that no matter how hard I try, I tend to compare myself to others on social media. Taking a break has made me realize that I shouldn’t compare my life to others and I should just be happy and live my life. Everyone usually only posts the “good” parts of their life, not the not so fun day to day stuff.

I also started taking guitar lessons a few months ago since I thought it’d be cool to learn something new and plus I love music. It’s so different from playing the cello and violin, which I’m used to. I also have a new boyfriend, which has been going great. We workout together and do everything together. It’s nice to be with someone that has the same goals as you.

We’ve been to many places together already. We went to Disneyland, we started to going to a lot of brewfests, EDC Las Vegas, and to Belfair, Washington during the 4th of July weekend. It’s been fun being able to travel and do things with each other.

I have gained weight because of all of these vacations though, which sucks. That’s the price for eating too good during vacations.  Before Disneyland (which was at the end of March), I weighed under 130 lbs, the lowest I had been in over three years. Now, I’m close to 140 lbs. I want to get back under 130 lbs. My goal weight is 120 – 125 lbs.

It’s not impossible to lose 15 pounds but it is always hard when you don’t have that much weight to lose to begin with. The good thing is that my bf and I are on the same page with losing weight, which helps. We both like working out and trying to eat healthy, but we also love eating good food (which doesn’t help sometimes either). But since we both gained weight because of the vacations, we are working together to lose the weight we gained.

I’ll be posting about my weight loss journey here. 🙂 For the most part, I do look the same but I don’t feel as well as I should. Of course, I want to lose weight the healthy way. I’ll post my plan on the next post. I just wanted pop in and say hi.

What have you guys been up to?

Do you guys need social media break sometimes?

What is “healthy eating”?

I have no idea where to begin on what is “healthy eating”. I have a bachelor’s of science degree in nutrition and it still boggles my mind. Now, I probably should clarify and say I don’t understand what “healthy eating tips” are, or how they came about in the first place.

Well, before I get more into this unorganized post with a lot of ranting, here is my definition of healthy eating: “Eating food that nourishes the mind, body, and soul“. Yes, eating healthy means to eat food that provides all the nutrients for your body. Yes, that means eating your fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, etc. However, there is another aspect of eating: eating food that nourishes your soul. That means that if you want to eat that scoop of ice cream, go right ahead. DON’T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT.

People put so much shame on eating that greasy burger or pizza. “I’ll gain 10 pounds by just looking at it.” “That burger will make me fat”. You know what? Don’t! If your body is craving it, eat it. Just don’t eat it every single damn day. It’s about finding the right balance of healthy eating and eating foods that you enjoy. It’s like they always say, everything in moderation! It won’t kill you if you eat burgers and fries every once in a while.

I get that some people have the all or nothing approach. They have to eat only “healthy foods” if they want to eat “healthy”. There’s no way they’re eating a piece of chocolate because after that, they won’t be able to stop. However, the question is whether or not you enjoy that type of eating. I like having a piece of chocolate every once in a while. I like eating pizza, burgers, fries, and ice cream. I just don’t eat it every day. You have to find the right balance.

The reason why I’m posting this is because it’s January, it’s a New Year, and people will fall into the diet trap. Keto, Whole30, whatever diet is the trend that year. If eating like that makes you healthy and feel good, sure. Do you like the food? Go for it. But, if you’re suffering through it and you’re not enjoying it, why torture yourself?

I get it. People want to be healthier, maybe even lose weight. But remember, enjoy your food. Don’t be so hard on yourself. As long as you’re eating healthy, it’s okay to eat the other foods every once in a while.

So, what is your definition of healthy eating?

What’s your favorite food?

Happy New Year 2019!

Happy New Year everyone! I can’t believe it’s already 2019. I am sorry I have been MIA the past two month. I got busy and I got sick twice (no bueno!). I am hoping to start of the New Year with a good start. Fingers crossed!

I didn’t workout that much last month as I was sick. I feel so out of shape.

Anyway, I hope everyone had a great new year. I’m pretty sure a lot of you will have New Year’s Resolutions. I have New Years Goals and I feel like posting them here so that I can keep myself accountable. Here are mine. I’m posting this to keep me on track and to hold myself accountable.

  • Run at least 2 x a week
  • Do a full pull-up, unassisted
  • Squat my weight
  • Do yoga 2 x a week
  • Do ab exercises 2 x a week (will probably do it along with yoga)
  • Stretch at the end of each workout
  • Eat out less (I eat out more than I should with the novio)

  • Save money – I created a budget.
  • Be more organized
  • Dress better (buy one or new clothes items a month, maximum OR look through my closet and find ways to match things better)
  • Spend more time with family and friends (getting more organized with my planner)
  • Blog more often (3 x a week)
    • Weekly Meals and Workouts
    • Fitness Friday
    • Health Post
    • Any personal posts
  • Find new hobbies
  • Create a better bedtime routine and morning routine

I know this is a lot of stuff. But, I feel like I should write down what I do want to accomplish for this year.

Sorry that I haven’t been posting lately. I will get back into it again.

Do you have any New Years Resolutions or goals?

How to stay motivated to workout during the winter

So, it’s that time of year again, the cold season. Yes, this means cold weather as well as the flu/cold season. For some people, it discourages them from working out since the conditions aren’t the most ideal. I know I’d rather stay in my warm bad for as long as I could in the morning. And after work, I’m eager to get inside my house and out of the elements. This makes the notion of leaving for the gym a daunting task. However, I still motivate myself to workout. Here are some tips.

  1. Exercise inside! This is pretty self-explanatory. You don’t have to join a gym to workout. There are workout videos and routines you can find online to do. You don’t even need weights to workout!
  2. Update your playlist! This goes with working out at home. You can be running on the treadmill at home or doing a workout routine while jamming to your favorite tunes. Music can be extremely beneficial for maintaining high spirits and a positive mindset.  This can go a long way towards staying motivated and keeping consistent with your workouts.
  3. Lay out your workout clothes the night before! This is good advice in general when you workout, especially in the morning. You don’t want to be fumbling around for your workout clothes, especially when you’re tired or when every second counts since your mornings are so busy. Just be sure you do have the right clothes if you are going to be out in the cold.
  4. Have a workout buddy! Whether it be running outside or taking a Zumba class, it’s always great to have a buddy that can keep you accountable for working out. Plus, you can see it as a social occasion, which may motivate you even more to workout!
  5. Take before and after pictures! This may motivate you. Take a picture in the beginning of the cold season and then take one close to the end of it. Of course, you can take it weekly if you want but at least a before and after for the season. This includes tracking your weight and measurements!
  6. Take sports or learn something new! My sister hates the idea of going to the gym or going outside for a run. However, it’s important to remember that there are many fun things you can do to stay active like rock-climbing, hiking, or bike riding. While hiking or bike riding isn’t an indoor activity, you can try something like rock climbing at indoor facility or playing tennis or basketball on an indoor court. You can think creatively and have fun while still staying active.

You can’t change the cold weather. However, you are in control of how you react to it. While it’s fun to snuggle up in bed or on the couch with your hot chocolate, don’t forget how important it is to still get up and get moving!

2018 – Fitness Friday 29 (on a Saturday)

It’s Saturday everyone. How are you guys doing today? I’m doing alright, thank you very much. The smoke has been terrible here in Sacramento due to the Camp Fire in Butte County. Schools have even closed down due to the terrible air quality. Seriously, there were days where the smoke was just sitting there, like fog.

I’ve been trying to stay indoors for the most part and have been unable to walk outside during my breaks due to the poor air quality. I’m trying to stay indoors as much as I can.

Anyway, here were my workouts this week.

Fitness Friday 11-16-18

I only ran once this week and it was just intervals. I’m happy I am incorporating some running at least. I just hate running on the treadmill at the gym since I get so hot easily. There are times that I get so hot that I have to walk, even though I’m not technically tired. If the smoke wasn’t so bad outside, I’d try to run for a bit outside after work while there’s still light. Oh well.

I also haven’t been doing yoga as I would have liked to. I just like sleeping more in the morning. But I do know there are benefits to doing exercise in the morning. Especially if it’s yoga. It will help me wake up and feel energized for the day. I have alarms set to wake me up but I always click on “snooze”. I have to stop doing that!

Well, that’s it for now.

How were your workouts this week?
