2017 – Fitness Friday 39 (on a Saturday)

Happy Saturday everyone! How are you guys doing today? I’m doing alright, thank you very much. The holidays are coming up and I have been very busy. It’ll just get busier as it gets closer to the holiday season!

Fitness Friday 11-10-17

Fitness Friday 11-17-17

Week of  11/12/2017

So, the reason why I did not really workout that much this week is that I have been busy just living life. I went to Disneyland last weekend with my sister and it was so much fun! I also hung out with friends and was just busy doing things. My eating hasn’t been the greatest either but hey, I am trying to do the best that I can. Sometimes, you just have to live life!

Anyway, you guys may be confused about what “everything” means when I say that or what PIIT is. When I say “everything”, I mean the entire upper body. Legs is the lower body. PIIT is Pilates Intense Interval Training created by Cassey Ho of Blogilates. I usually do 2 videos (8 rounds) for PIIT but this week, I only did one round. Cassey Ho also developed this great Fit Planner that I purchased for 2018. It is on her popflex website (her brand of fitness clothing and accessories). I am hoping it will help me reach my goals, having this planner.

Anyway, that is it for this post. My next post will be about my Disneyland trip and the post after that will be about eating during the holidays.

How were your workouts this week?

Have you been to Disneyland? If so, what is your favorite ride?

2017 – Fitness Friday 11 + SoCal Trip (Universal Studios!!)

Sooo, it’s Thursday. I haven’t posted here in over a week. I have been so busy! I hope things have been going well for you guys. So, my family went to SoCal this past weekend. We drove there late Friday afternoon and got there around midnight! We left Sunday, late afternoon. So, it was literally just for the weekend. Oh, the 6-7 hour drive there and 6-7 hour drive back.

Anyway, I ended up not working out Friday-Sunday. I did walk a lot though!

Fitness Friday 3-31-17

Saturday was Universal Studios.

2017-04-04_21.31.49[1]

Universal Studios was really fun. Plus, I have the season pass. My season pass is the Harry Potter World picture, which I am happy about. My siblings were given a Minion one and the Studio Tour one. We were able to get a fast pass for the Studio Tour because we were season pass holders and took a survey. We skipped the hour long wait!

The main reason why I wanted to go there was because of Harry Potter World. It opened up last year but I was finally able to go check it out. The rides were pretty cool, I tried butter beer (which was way to sweet for me), and I bought an EXPENSIVE interactive Hermione wand. I was able to perform “magic” with the interactive wand and it was pretty cool.

Food in the park is so expensive so we went out of the park to eat lunch. My siblings and I ate at Blaze Pizza, a make your own pizza place. It’s like Chipotle, but with pizza. We also got Starbucks.

The other sweets pictured are from 85 C Bakery Cafe at Irvine that we bought Sunday afternoon. Their matcha red bean sponge roll was delicious! Their mocha bun (the stripped one) was okay. I was hoping it would have tasted better.

Sunday: The Getty Center & The Griffith Observatory

2017-04-04 21.19.42

There isn’t really much to say about the Getty Center and Griffith Observatory. For the Getty Center, we had to take a tram up a hill to get to there. It was pretty scary because it’s so high up. However, their garden was really pretty. We didn’t have much time to explore both places because we didn’t want to get back home too late. I really wanted to look at the sculptures they had. Next time!

2017-04-04 21.54.27

The Griffith Observatory is also on top of a hill but we had to drive up the hill. It was so scary! There wasn’t too much to the observatory. It’s just like a museum where you learn more about the solar system and universe. We also weren’t able to look through the telescope because we went during the day. We did get to look at how the telescope looks. We had to leave by late afternoon for our long drive back home and telescope viewing hours were at night.

2017-04-04 21.37.23

After visiting the Getty Center and the Griffith Observatory, we went back to Monterey Park and ate at a popular Chinese restaurant. We ate at MaMa Lu’s Dumpling House. They have two locations and both were really busy. One of them had at least an hour wait! The food was delicious, however. You can see the food we ate pictured above. I highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.

Well, that is it for now. I didn’t want to make this post too long and wordy.

How were your workouts last week?

Have you been to Universal Studios?

Who’s your favorite Harry Potter character?

Do you workout while on vacation?

Social Media, Body Acceptance, Health

All over social media, whether it is Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, etc., you see some people post about their workouts, foods they eat (or don’t eat), etc. For many young women (especially teenagers), it can be a trigger for disordered eating, or even eating disorders. Most of the time, these people that post about their workouts and what they eat (or don’t eat) are very slim and that is what the young women want to achieve. Just a side note, anyone can develop disordered eating or an eating disorder (including men and older women), however, you see it most commonly in young women.

I still fall into the trap of going through Instagram, do the comparison game, feel bad about how I look, wonder what they do to achieve it, then go through their posts to see what workouts they do and meals they eat so that I can achieve their look. I know better than to do this. But, after all, I am human.

So, I waste about one hour of my day doing this and realize that I wouldn’t be able to eat like this person. I can’t do their workouts either (at least 2-3 hours a day!). I have a life and other stuff to do, after all. Sure, it may work for them. However, I get bored of eating the same thing every day. Hey, I try to meal prep and plan foods out but I tend to like variety. I also like eating my sushi and burgers & fries. To be quite honest, some of the “diets” they follow are also unhealthy. Some of them eliminate some food groups. But during that one hour, all I think about is I want to lose weight and have a nice body. Then, I come back to reality and know that life is all about balance and moderation.

There are a couple of Registered Dietitian (RD) bloggers that I follow and I love their philosophy.  Kylie from the blog ImmaEatThat, Robyn from the Real Life RD, & Anne from FAnnetastic Food have a similar philosophy of intuitive eating and not restricting food. We should love and accept our bodies to way it is supposed to be. You don’t have to be a size zero to be beautiful. Some bodies are naturally skinnier or naturally fuller. As you long as you are doing physical activity (exercising) and eating everything in moderation, that is where your body is naturally supposed to be. This is what these RD’s preach! There are other RDs out there with similar philosophies but these three I follow the most on social media. It’s refreshing to have this compared to things you see like “lose 10 lbs in 7 days” type of thing.

Here are a few links to some of their posts so you can get the idea of what these RDs are all about.

I can go more into detail about this in another post but I just wanted to get this out there. After all, you only live once. Live life to the fullest and enjoy it!

So-Cal Trip

As I mentioned earlier, I went on a mini vacation to So-Cal (Southern California) last week. I had a great time.

2016-08-06 16.40.04

So, me and my sister had an 8:40 pm flight last Tuesday to Irvine. It felt so weird traveling without my parents. I know. I felt like a real adult traveling without them. We landed in Orange County around 9:50 pm.

We got our luggage and decided to go to 85 Degrees bakery. I was hoping to buy a red bean pastry but they didn’t have any. Instead, I bought a savory pastry bread with chicken, green onions, and sriracha (which I ate for breakfast the following morning). After 85 Degrees Bakery, we went to BCD Tofu House for a late dinner. I had no clue what to expect and I ordered kimchi and spicy bbq chicken. The chicken was good but the kimchi soup thing wasn’t as good as I hoped it would be.

Wednesday was a relaxing day. We just shopped at Trader Joes and went Pig Haus for some food and boba milk tea. We cooked up some Kung Pao Chicken from Trader Joes for dinner.

2016-08-07 14.12.10

Thursday was Beach Day! I never get to go to the beach and it was fun playing in the water. We went to Newport Beach and it was fun. Ran into waves, swimming, etc.  I was so self conscious wearing a bikini at first but I realized that I shouldn’t. I should be confident. We ended up eating at Charlie’s Chilis by the beach and the food was delicious! I ordered a shrimp burrito from there and had some clam chowder.

2016-08-07 14.13.30

Night time was the Spectrum. I went to the Hello Kitty Cafe. I loved the coffee art they did, making the Hello Kitty on my latte. It was cute but it didn’t taste so good. Their macaroons and the poptart like thing they had were also really sweet. They looked cute though. I just went there for the experience. I overheard people saying that they drove for an hour to get there just to try it out.

The next day was the Sake to Me, all you can eat SUSHI!!! My sister and I ordered 12 rolls. We went with one of her friends and boy, it was ALOT!!! I was so stuffed after. The pictures are a little blurry for the sushi. I also worked out that day in her apartment gym.

That night, we went to the 626 Night Market in LA! It was crowded and the food was so expensive. We went to Rolling Ice and got Rolled Ice Cream. I had to try the purple yam one.

2016-08-07 14.46.26

After the 626 Night Market in LA, my sister’s friend showed us a cool street food taco place and it was awesome. It’s really hard to explain but they had amazing tacos that were cooked and made right there in front of you. It was NOT a food truck. It was literally set up in an alley out in the open and a lot of people went there to buy the tacos.

Saturday was a relaxing day. I worked out and we ate Thai Food. I ordered Tofu Pad Thai with Thai Milk Tea. My sister ordered some other noodle dish with beef.

2016-08-07 14.47.53

After that, I relaxed a bit and then packed for my flight back home.

It was a fun mini vacation!

Have you been to the Hello Kitty Cafe?

What are your favorite places to visit in so-cal?

Living the “Healthy” Life

There is something I have to admit. I’m not living a healthy of a lifestyle as I used to. To be perfectly honest, I am okay with that. I really don’t know if the way I used to do things was even considered healthy. So, I can’t really complain about how I am living my life right now. Let me tell you guys how I used to be before and how I am right now.

myplate_magenta

Before

I used to not eat enough. That’s the truth. I counted calories. I made sure I ate 1600 calories or under everyday. On top of that, my meals weren’t as balanced as they have should been. I restricted my calories so much that I limited what food groups I ate. My breakfast and lunches were usually a peanut butter sandwich, cereal, or a Clif bar. Every once in a while, I’d make a turkey and cheese sandwich for lunch, veggie burger, or hummus and pita chips. On the rare occasion I decided to buy food, I’d buy food from Panda Express or a salad from an eatery at school. As you can see, my diet wasn’t varied and I restricted my calories. My dinners were balanced, however.

On top of my eating, my workout habits weren’t that healthy. They were obsessive compulsive, if anything. I worked out twice a day. I  worked out 2 hours, 5-6 days a week. That’s a lot of energy spent. I also walk to campus from the lightrail and walk around school. I didn’t get much sleep either, wanting to workout in the early morning. Now you know why I say I wasn’t consuming enough calories and how my habits weren’t healthy.

It was easy because I seemed to have a lot of time. My classes weren’t hard and I wasn’t working. I had the body I really liked though. I weighed a lean 110 bs.

Now

Let’s start with my eating. I am eating 2000 calories +. I am seriously not counting calories anymore. I eat 3 meals a day, plus 2-3 snacks. My meals are more balanced now. I eat more of a variety. It’s crazy how my view of “healthy eating” has changed. I’m not so strict on always eating whole grains and going out to eat. I don’t eat certain foods just because they’re low in calories. I’m more relaxed on my eating. I eat “healthy” 75-80% of the time, which is good enough for me. It is hard to always eat “healthy” when in a relationship sometimes because eating out is what happens most of the time. Mi novio and I eat out a lot when we go on our dates. And let’s just say, I don’t always choose the healthiest options.

1799898_10206367101557938_7579487942580851823_o

As for my workouts, I’m not working out as much. I just don’t have the time anymore. I have 8 am classes, 5 days a week and I take public transit to school. That means that even though I already wake up early, I don’t have the time to workout. I don’t want to lose sleep either by waking up even early. I’ve been really busy. I spend time with mi novio. I have my classes to worry about (full time student). I have work. I’m tired half the time (or should I say most of the time). I workout maybe an hour, 5-6 days a week.

I still think that I’m doing pretty well. It’s hard to balance school, work, exercise/eating healthy, and having a relationship.  I am still working out, eating as healthy as I can, getting my education, and gaining work experience. I may not weigh as low as 110 lbs but I still think I am at a pretty healthy weight. I weigh 124 lbs. I know a lot of women don’t like sharing their weight but it’s just a number. It doesn’t reflect the type of person you are or how you look.

What is your view of “healthy” eating?

How do you balance your life?
