Fitness Friday 35 + First week back at school

Happy Friday everyone. How are you guys doing today? I’m doing great, thank you very much. Classes started this week and I have been busy. Anyway, I will talk about that later. First, here were my workouts for the week. Remember that I switched my long run days last weekend. I ran 11 miles on Saturday instead of Sunday.

Fitness Friday 9-5-14

It has been weird not being able to work out as much as I used to. I’m just busy now that I can only squeeze a workout in the morning. At least it is better than nothing. At least I get walks in during my break at work.

Back to school related stuff, I am taking 4 classes. Well, I would technically call it 3 classes. Chemistry, American Sign Language, Philosophy of Science, and PAL for Chemistry. PAL is Peer Assisted Learning and it is extra help for the class. I am also working too, which takes up my time as well.

In other news, look at what mi novio got for me.

Homemade peach jam, pickled peppers, pickled zucchini, and hot salsa. All of it is homemade! I tried the salsa and, wow. It is hot! I like it though. I love homemade foods.

That’s all my updates for me. I am sorry if I have not been posting as much but life happens! I’ll do my best to post at least three times a week: Fitness Friday, Weekly Meals and Workouts, as well as one random post.

How was your week?

Do you like homemade foods?

San Francisco (SF) Trip

The first thing I have to say about San Francisco was that it was UNUSUALLY WARM that day. Mi novio and I went yesterday and it was so much fun! It was nice weather, though we would have preferred it a little cooler. At least it wasn’t overcast and cold. It was sunny and warm, just how California should be.

The first thing is that he lives in Yolo County, while I live in Sacramento County. The drive wasn’t as long when we started driving from his place. Surprisingly, there was not much traffic on the freeway. We thought there would be more traffic because it is Labor Day weekend.

The first thing we did when we got to SF was go to Twin Peaks. Twin Peaks is the highest part of San Francisco and you can see the entire city It was beautiful. P1060370P1060373

We climbed up one of the two peaks, which is where we took the picture. Who knew that little climb can be a little tiring.

After going to Twin Peaks, we decided to go to the famous Haight-Ashbury. I have to say, the culture there is quite different. You would not want to bring your kids there.

Green bud, hash, they are code words. I saw some pretty interesting things there. I wouldn’t want to live there but it was an experience seeing how other people live. It’s funny because Whole Foods is at the end of the street. Then, the Golden Gate Park is right across the street.

We went to the Golden Gate Park after, since it was just right there. It was a nice, long walk. The scenery was nice as well. It was a little warm but we enjoyed it. I think we walked around 4-5 miles altogether around the park.

Oh, did I mention that there was a coyote warning?

We had a good workout walking around and we were STARVING after. Sure, we had eaten a sandwich from Whole Foods before going to SF but it had been  5  hours since we ate. Add the fact that we walked, we built up an appetite!

We went to Burger Urge for a late lunch. He ordered a cheeseburger while I ordered the veggie burger and a side of sweet potato fries. We enjoyed our meal. It was delicious.

That was our day in San Francisco. We had a great time, experienced new things, got a workout in, and the weather was almost perfect. There were so many runners/joggers at the park.

Have you been to San Francisco? – I have a million times but it was nice to hang out with mi novio.

What places do you guys like going to in SF?

Chinese Restaurant Experience

I went to a Chinese Restaurant con mi novio y su hijo recently. It was in a small town and I noticed that there are not that many Asians there, if any at all. Anyway, we walked inside and the only Asians I saw were the workers. The customers were all American or Hispanic. This is just an observation. No judgement.

We were seated and the table was set up with a plate and forks. However, the waitress came by and gave ONLY me, a pair of chopsticks. On top of that, they were disposable chopsticks. I didn’t even ask for them and she didn’t ask any of us if we wanted chopsticks or not.

Anyway, the hombres wanted me to order since I am Chinese. I really wanted the salty fish and chicken fried rice. It is so good. I didn’t see it on the menu, so I asked the waitress in Chinese if they had it. The hombres were just staring like, “what are they saying?”. They didn’t have the fried rice, unfortunately. So, I ordered the regular chicken fried rice and garlic eggplant. The garlic eggplant was the “foreign” food because they have never eaten it the “Asian” way (oh, by the way, I introduced broccoli stir fried with oyster sauce to mi novio and he likes it!). They ordered the prawn chow mein.

And yes, I also ordered the spicy seafood soup. The waitress actually suggested it, saying that I would probably like it. I was expecting there to be fish stomach in the soup, since that is how it normally is made. However, there wasn’t any. I wanted to see their reactions to tasting fish stomach. The taste and texture is quite different.

Anyway, su hijo did not like the eggplant nor the soup. You should have seen his reaction on his face when he tried it. It was priceless. He didn’t finish his soup either. Mi novio liked the soup a lot but he was not a big fan of the eggplant. He said it was soft, which he isn’t used to.

After dinner, we decided to go to the park and play basketball. Well, we played HORSE. I started winning at first but then I lost. I had a lot of energy though, apparently. It was a good night.

That’s it for now. I just had to tell you guys  because I just found it hilarious that the waitress gave me chopsticks, even though I didn’t ask for it.

How was your day?

Do you like Chinese food? If so, what’s your favorite dish?
